Moon Trees Help Save the world

In 2007, Yuri's Night teamed up with American Forests to continue a decades-old environmental tradition of the space community. After Yuri Gagarin made his historic trip into outer space, he planted a tree at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in hopes of sustaining the beauty he had seen from high above. Future cosmonauts followed in his footsteps, eventually creating an alley of trees on the stark Russian plains. The American space program took up the cause in 1971, when astronaut Stuart Roosa took hundreds of tree seeds with him on the flight for Apollo XIV.

These "Moon Trees", as they soon became known, were planted around the world over the next several years, in locations ranging from Brazil and Switzerland to the Kennedy Space Center. The seedlings are second-from these trees are being spread and replanted even today, as a reminder to protect our Earth while dreaming as big as the Moon.

Thanks to private donations and our partners at American Forests, Yuri's Night distributed second-generation Moon Tree seeds and seedlings to all of its registered 2007 parties! Tree planting ceremonies were held all around the globe to spread awareness and appreciation for the Moon Trees and celebrate the positive impact of space exploration on the environment.
